Who has Root Access
WebVolta’s leadership team is its three co-founders, and they still get their hands dirty on client work. Nic Boie is a senior developer and software architect who has been writing code for 38 years, a Ruby on Rails specialist, and a contributor to the open-source LocomotiveCMS project. Brittany Rudquist leads UX/UI design and branding with more than 15 years in the field, including past lives as a creative manager and senior UX/UI consultant in retail, medical device, and healthcare. JD Guzman is a senior developer and former system administrator with more than 20 years of experience, whose work across the legislative and marketing worlds shows up in code that holds up in production.
Together they run a Minneapolis software and design studio that plans AI architecture, builds AI agents and MCP integrations, and still sweats the details on websites, apps, and brands for clients across Minnesota and beyond.
Security Is Not an Add-On
Cybersecurity isn’t something we bolt on the week before launch. Nic Boie and JD Guzman have each spent more than a decade building and running software inside SOC and ISO 27001 compliant environments, where access is least-privilege, every change leaves a trail, and auditors ask the awkward questions. That habit comes along on every project: secrets stay out of the code, people and systems get only the access they need, and the AI agents we build touch only what they’re allowed to. If your security team has a checklist, bring it. We like checklists.
Nic Boie // Developer
Nic, co-founder and Senior Developer of WebVolta, has been wrangling code and architecting systems for 38 years. An ace with Ruby on Rails and a key contributor to the LocomotiveCMS open-source project, he delights in seeing clients thrive with our work. He has also spent more than a decade working inside multiple SOC and ISO 27001 compliant environments, so security and audit trails come standard. When he's not taming the digital jungle, Nic indulges his boundless curiosity, which fuels his coding prowess.
Where it started
He's been at this since he was a kid: calling into local BBSes around 1990, then running his own, DARK KNiGHT BBS, from 1994 (he was 13) into the early 2000s. He joined FidoNet and started a small net of his own, DaRKNeT, which he kept running for years. The public message boards were quiet, but the people he met there, and everything he learned keeping a board alive, are the reason he built a career and a business.
He missed that world enough that in 2026 he got his ham license to go find it again. He's on the air as KF0WWR, mostly working FT8 across the HF bands, chasing some POTA, and tinkering toward an over-the-air BBS that doesn't work like the ones out there today. 73.
His first web pages were hand-written in pico on a dial-in Unix shell and checked in lynx. None of those survived. The oldest one that did is a 1998 redirect notice he made in FrontPage Express, which is a little embarrassing for a terminal kid, but it's the receipt.

Meet Brittany, the UX/UI design maestro and co-founder of WebVolta. With more than 15 years in the field, including past lives as a Creative Manager and Senior UX/UI Consultant in the retail, medical device and healthcare fields, she brings a unique perspective to branding and design. Whether it's print, digital, or even fine art photography, Brittany's creative prowess knows no bounds.
JD Guzman // Developer
JD is a Senior Developer, co-founder of WebVolta, and a former System Administrator with more than 20 years in the business and a knack for Ruby. His unique experience spanning the legislative and marketing sectors gives him a keen eye for code. He has also spent more than a decade working inside multiple SOC and ISO 27001 compliant environments, where locked-down access and change control are just how the job gets done. Whether he's crafting digital solutions or exploring new development frontiers, JD applies his skills with a passion that only a true code enthusiast can muster.
